Actress-model-host Anne Curtis-Smith partnered with Plains & Prints for last year’s Summer/Spring Collection and I must say it’s a very smart decision for the latter.
Truthfully, I’ve always found P&S a bit of a fence-straddler in that it has always tried to stick its neck out and be bolder with its pieces, but still reluctantly holds on to its grounded, conventional style. However, despite the fact that Anne’s personal style is much edgier than what was shown in the collection (take a look at her OOTDs in her Instagram account), she has brought so much spirit into it simply because – well, she is who she is. And by that I mean fearless but grounded, makes mistakes but owns up to it and tries to be better, glamorous but not above getting her knees dirty.
These qualities have endeared her to Filipinos across social classes, an image that may be what P&S seeks to channel, as shown in their designs in the collection. In “Anne & Plains & Prints: The Perfect Partnership”, the vibrant colors are tempered by traditional lines and cuts, recent high street fashion staples like bomber jackets and peplums matched with classic pieces, like the ubiquitous button-down collared shirt.
All in all, it was certainly a good business decision for P&S to enter this partnership, bringing a very positive spin to its image. It goes to show how in the hodgepodge of local retail fashion, image is paramount, and who better to lift up an image than showbiz “It” girl, Anne Curtis-Smith.
